gather + wander is a blog about gathering stories, inspiration and experiences, all of which are based around my undeniable love for wholesome food, design and travel. A lot of what I post are raw food recipes; some are sparked by cherished childhood memories, while some are created out of curiosity and experimentation. As a natural wanderer, I also aim to travel the world, and it is here where I choose to document my adventures.

Hey there! I’d like to introduce myself as Ysabelle, and welcome you to my blog, gather + wander. Through this space I share my gathered thoughts and inspiration, all the while wandering this fascinating world we live in.

It all started in February 2013, back when this blog was known as Owlmond Butter and focused solely on creating delicious homemade raw, organic, vegan cuisine. I would say that I’ve always been a foodie, eating food more for what food tastes like than what it provides for my body. It wasn’t really until I was exposed to these amazing things called vegetables that I began to take an interest in preparing my food for myself. Once I did, I was baffled by how easy and tasty it was. That was back in mid 2011.

Months on I came across a raw food book, where I was immediately drawn in by these magical desserts called bliss balls. I instantly fell deep in love. Since then, it has been my mission to make others do the same thing: fall in love with hearty, healthy food that loves them back. That could be in the form of a rich hazelnut cake, an epic green smoothie bowl, or a simple rainbow salad with the best tahini dressing ever.

Occasionally, you’ll find some arty design-y posts here too. That would have to do with my second love: design. I suppose you can technically call me a designer, since I am an aspiring architect studying in the University of Auckland (but now in Technische Universitat Munchen for exchange). I love anything from Gaudi’s Art Nouveau, Le Corbusier’s beton brut, and Mies’ minimalism. My design inclination doesn’t end there, because I’m a self confessed ceramics, silverware, wooden dining ware, furniture, and kitchen appliance hoarder. Okay, that’s not completely true, because my collection is quite limited, and really, a hoarder is what I aspire to be. Kind of like Madelon Vriesendorp.

Finally, as you may have noticed, I also do a fair bit of travel. I would be lying if I said that was purely due to the fact that I’m just another adventurous Kiwi wanting to constantly visit my relatives in the Philippines. On the contrary, I’m just your not so average lady wanting to travel to learn more about the vast land, sea, and air that surrounds us. As I do, I exercise not only my physical body, but also my mind. After all, I am a true believer that experiencing what the world has to offer teaches us a lot more than the classrooms or lecture theatres ever will.

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy my little online journal as much as I do.
